Aamir khan, only actor in the Hindi film Industry to have a perfectionist tag attached to his name. Born in 1965 to Tahir and Zeenat Hussain in Mumbai this method actor is not only successful as an actor but has also has ventured in direction, production, screenplay and even play back singing. A true film genius who does films that excites him and barring few occasions all have excited audiences as well. He was also a state tennis champion of Maharashtra and playing badminton is his favorite hobby. He is also known for his injection of sincerity in his roles and changes his looks from film to film. Be it the funky guy in Dil Chahta Hai, growing long hair and moustache for Mangal Pandey, going six pack for Ghajini and to everyone’s surprise getting so lean and playing a college student in his next flick 3 Idiots.

Aamir made his debut as a child actor in Uncle Nasir Hussain’s Film Yaadon Ki Baraat in 1973. He also did Holi which launched him in 1984 but his career shifted gear with his cousin Mansoor Khan’s 1988 blockbuster Qayamat se Qayamat Tak with Juhi Chawla. The role also gave him first ever award, Filmfare for best debut. That film made him an overnight superstar and there was no looking back. He married his long time girlfriend Reena during the film secretly and it was only after several months the couple got their parents approval. Aamir and Reena have two children, Junaid and Reena. The couple though got divorced in 2002 and Aamir married Kiran Rao, an assistant director of his home production Lagaan.

What makes Aamir makes more special is his diversity. He chooses films of different genres and comes out with flying colours. Soon after QSQT he did Raakh which was a critically acclaimed film. He had his own share of ups and downs in the early 90’s. He got hits like Dil, Dil he ki manta nahin, Jo jeeta wahin sikandar, Andaaz apna apna etc. But it was in the latter half of the decade he established himself as a good and versatile actor. Rangeela and Raja Hindustani where mega hits and it were followed by Ghulam and Sarfarosh which were also big hits. A lot of his film bombed also at that time like Baazi, Akele hum Akele Tum, Mann, Mela. He also acted in Deepa Mehta’s 1947 Earth which was critically acclaimed. Aamir finally turned producer with Lagaan which was truly a blockbuster. Lagaan was a period film with Cricket as its backdrop and was nominated for the Academy Awards in 2002. In 2001 it he did Dil Chahta Hai which was a path breaking film He then took a break to develop into his Mangal Pandey Avatar but the film bombed. Aamir then made a strong comeback in Rang de Basanti and Fanaa.
He then finally turned director with Taare Zameen Par which told the story of a dyslexic boy. Aamir then acted in two films which made history at the Box Office, Ghajini and 3 Idiots. He is currently acting in his wife’s film Dhobi Ghaat. He also plays mentor to his nephew Imraan Khan who has already found success in Bollywood. He is also producing three films currently.
