Ever wondered if we could sit at home, sipping a hot cup of coffee , enjoying the monsoon and simultaneously doing our work at the office at the same time. You guys must be thinking I am kidding! , No I am not. Team viewer, a remote desktop sharing software makes this possible. It is an easy and effective way of desktop sharing. The usual worry of firewalls, IP’s and such blockades will not be there as this software works on a different platform. This software packages also include remote control and file transfer facilities. Though the main aim of the software is remote controlling of computers various presentation features are included. Best part of it all is Team Viewer is free software which can be downloaded from the internet. Team Viewer was found in 2005 in Uhingen at Germany.
So what is a Remote Desktop Software? Any application or a feature which allows to be run remotely on server is called a Remote Desktop Software. It is also explained as a remote control of a computer by using another device using internet. The software on the master computer picks up the keyboard and mouse activities of the remote computer and controls it. Then the remote control software implements the action on the master computer window. This software is mainly effective when the remote system is disabled with its own devices. That is because interference from the remote system could cause disruption to the master system. The main use of remote desktop software is that it remotely administrates system. So it won’t be a problem if you are in India and your office is in London, a control will always be there. There is many more such software available in the market. To name a few: - LogMeln, GoToMyPc, Radmin, LapLink etc. But my pick is Team Viewer since it is very easy to use and more importantly it is Free.



We have to first download the Team Viewer from the site and install it in both the master and the slave system. We can also work with the team viewer without installing but there will be no administrator power. When the team viewer is installed in a computer a username and password is generated. To enable the communication between the controlled and the controller, we have to pass the login information of the controlled system. If the proper user ID and password are provided, we can begin accessing the remote system. File transfer is also possible between the two systems. Whether we have Dial up or broadband connection the performance is always fantastic. The biggest advantage of team viewer is that it works behind firewall. Team viewer also gives us the possibility of running the computers situated in the different parts of the world as a private local network. For security reasons team viewer uses encryption, to be more specific RSA session encoding. Team viewer is also browser and platform independent. So you can use it across any browsers and OS. So in short this software gives us great services and that too for Free!
