I still remember my friend in higher secondary trying desperately to emulate Salman Khan in every aspect. He was going to gym regularly and even modeled his hair style on Salman but his effort sadly ended in getting the scolding of the teachers when he danced without shirt at a school function. Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan aka Sallu Bhai is the only actor in bollywood to have made into top ten most handsome men in the world. He was in the seventh position in the 1994 survey. Till now no other Indian actors have managed that feat. Yet we remember this actor as a spoilt brat, a Casanova who dumps ladies as much as he dumps hearing scripts. Born to one of the most successful script writers in Bollywood Salim Khan this dependable actor who according to me has the most efficient coming timing than any other and is a super star in every criteria. Sallu was launched in a special appearance in 1988 Film “Biwi Ho To Aisi”. Many still like to believe that the 1989 mega block buster “Maine Pyar Kiya” is his debut film. This film made Salman a household name and there was no looking back ever since then. “Saajan” came next which established himself as a bankable actor. Salman then paired with Madhuri Dixit for Hum Apke Hain Kaun which spread like a rage all over India. Most of the credit for the film though went to Madhuri. He always have played second fiddle to actors be it Andaaz Apna Apna with Aamir, Karan Arjun with Shahrukh or more recently Partner with Govinda. He also made a superb cameo appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and enacted the desperate lover in Bhansali’s Hum dil de chuke Sanam and Tere Naam. The “O O Jane Jana” song in Pyaar kiya to darna kiya became a theme for the campus youth in the late 90’s. Salman had it his share of relationships in the past namely Sangeetha Bijlani, Somy Ali, Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif. Salman recently split up with Katrina and is very much single now. Salman never went too open about his relationship and that probably increased his bad boy image among the public, His hostile attitude towards the press never helped either. His personal life has always hogged the limelight in the past. Sure he is famous than his two brothers, Sohail and Arbaaz.
Salman ran into trouble for the first time in the chinkara poaching case. He even served a limited jail term for it. This incident happened during the shooting of Hum Sath Sath Hain in Rajasthan. In 2002 Salman was involved in a hit and run case. One person was killed and three injured when his SUV ran into street dwellers. Though Salman repeatedly said that he was not driving the vehicle nobody really taken it to account, it seems everybody wanted Salman to be a bad boy. Salman have also been accused for threatening Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi over the phone when the couple was seeing each other. Aishwarya even accused him of physical and mental assault. Salman has also been linked to the underworld and refused to speak against them in a forgery case. Salman have also been in the bad books of Muslim organizations for conducting a Ganesh Pooja in his house. Salman has maintained that though he is an Islamic follower he also believes in secularism. At one point Salman’s career was completely written off but in the past few years he has made a strong comeback through films like Partner and Wanted. His next flick Dabbang is also expected to be a super hit. Salman also ventured into small screen with the game show Dus Ka Dum which rocketed the TRP ratings. Salman also recently had a spat with one time good friend Shahrukh Khan and two are not Seeing Eye to eye now. Salman though is also known for his noble side, he runs a charity foundation Being Human in Mumbai which helps poor people in many ways. Salman have always lived life at his own terms and will remain to do so during the rest of his life. Love him hate him but you just cannot ignore him!!
